snowmobiling - dewayne lane2

The Katahdin Area offers over 350 miles of groomed trails providing for some of the most spectacular snowmobiling in Maine. With easy access from I-95 and averagesnowfalls of 100 inches or more each season, the Katahdin Region is a true winter paradise.

The scenery across the base of Mt. Katahdin, as you travel through the Maine woods, is breathtaking. The area clubs are committed to making sure that the snowfall we get is optimized for the best snowmobiling experience found anywhere. These local snowmobile clubs are truly welcome places for the trail rider to pit-stop for hot food and drink, to engage in the local camaraderie, and share your trail experiences. These clubs are spaced within easy riding distance of one another.

Look for trail signs leading to the Northern Timbers Cruisers clubhouse, open weekends throughout the sledding season, and eight miles away in East Millinocket, one can find the East Branch Sno Rovers, home of KASRA, Katahdin Area Snowmobile Races. For a complete schedule of race dates and times, please visit their website.

While Jo Mary Riders do not have a club house, they play an integral part in maintaining our local trail system.  Check out their website for information on popular rides, trail conditions, etc.

Area businesses and hotels cater to snowmobilers. Trailside gas, snowmobile rental, lodging and meals are available all along the interconnected trail system (ITS). Katahdin Area Chamber of Commerce produces a local snowmobile trail map which depicts the trails, as well as nearby services. Click on the local snowmobile trail map link to view and print the map. For an overview of the trails statewide, the Maine Snowmobile Association: www.mesnow.com produces a map, which is helpful in planning trips throughout the regions.
