The Katahdin Region has a rich history that infamously includes logging and papermaking dating back to the 19th century and Maine's only 19th Century iron works operation. Hydro power and rail roads are historically important as they have been intrigal in the powering and transportation within our local industry. Not to mention, the history of the abundant forests, wildlife and tourism that co-exist within the area.

The region has a variety of museums and historic sites that have preserved this history. All sites noted with an * are on the National Register of Historic Places.
