Millinocket Independence Day Celebration: Rockin’ through the Ages
Plans are currently underway for Millinocket’s Independence Day celebration, and festival organizers are looking for interested volunteers and participants to get involved to make it a grand success. The theme for this year’s festival is Rockin’ through the Ages, with the focus on different decades of Millinocket history portrayed in costumes and music, as well as significant historical events. The Town of Millinocket, Katahdin Area Rotary Club, Millinocket Regional Hospital and The Katahdin Area Partnership will be sponsoring these days and the tentative schedule is as follows:
- Saturday June 27: The Annual Elks Kids Day at Jerry Pond from 12 to 3 p.m..
- Sunday June 28: Knights of Columbus Chicken Barbecue and Bake Sale starting at 11:00 a.m. on Highland Ave.
- Wednesday evening July 1: Katahdin Idol at 6:00 p.m. at Stearns High School.
- Thursday evening July 2: Family entertainment at 6:00 p.m. at Veteran’s Park with music, food vendors and the Black Fly Theater.
- Friday morning July 3: Annual Book & Bake Sale 9-12 at the Millinocket Library, Children’s Parade at 10:00 with Anah Temple Clowns to Veteran's Park, followed by Faerie Fun House building, games, Jump House, and children’s entertainment with "Julie & Brownie", plus music, food and craft vendors.
- Friday evening July 3rd: Street dance at 6:00 p.m. in Veteran's Park, plus food vendors.
- Saturday morning July 4: Parade at 10:00 from IGA parking lot to Veteran's Park. Come meet the American Loggers and their film crew.
- Saturday July 4th: Family entertainment with comedian Gary Crocker in Veteran’s Park, plus music, food and craft vendors.
- Saturday evening July 4th: Musical entertainment with the "Hometown Band" at 6:00 p.m. behind Stearns High, plus food vendors... with the annual Fireworks at dusk.
All interested vendors can pick up vendor applications at the Chamber of Commerce. Food vendors will be required to obtain a victualer’s license, with applications available at the town hall or the Chamber of Commerce.
